Superfoods: Adding some “Super” to your diet!

By now, most people have heard the term “Superfood” thrown around, but the question remains: Do you know what a Superfood is?

The term Superfood is typically associated with foods that offer multiple benefits for the body minus the high amount of fat and calories tagging along (especially saturated fats). 

In Superfoods, you can expect to see high amounts of fiber, high amounts of protein, antioxidants, and lots of nutrients.  Granted, not all Superfoods will contain EVERYTHING mentioned beforehand, but while certain ones would be high in fiber, another would contain more protein.

The simple fact of the matter and why it’s important to know about Superfoods – adding them to your daily dietary routine will have a significant positive effect.  As with everything, extreme amounts are not the goal, but rather a healthier alternative to give your body a boost!

Now that you have a general idea of what a Superfood is, the next step is determining which foods fall into this category.  Here are some of the most popular and common Superfoods:Superfood

  • Nuts and seeds (especially peanuts)
  • Dark Green Veggies (kale, broccoli, Brussel sprouts)
  • Brightly colored Veggies (beets, tomatoes, sweet potatoes)
  • Beans
  • Fatty fish (e.g. salmon)
  • Citrus Fruits (oranges, lemons)
  • Berries
  • Whole Grains
